Day 8. Favorite bickering scene.

“Are you still with Dean?”, episode 3x02

JESS: Doing a little shopping?
RORY: Yes. Excuse me.
JESS: Why the cold shoulder?
RORY: No cold shoulder. I just have perishables here.
JESS: Oh yeah, you wanna get home before that beefaroni goes bad.
RORY: My mom’s waiting for me.
JESS: How was Washington?
RORY: Fine.
JESS: Do anything interesting?
RORY: Nope.
JESS: Okay.
RORY: What about you?
JESS: What about me?
RORY: Anything interesting happen? This summer, I mean.
JESS: Nope.
RORY: Really?
JESS: Really.
RORY: So nothing happened this summer, at all?
JESS: It was hot. Two weeks ago there was a run on snowcones. Machine broke, people went crazy, Taylor tried to call in the National Guard, but –
RORY: I’m not talking about snowcones.
JESS: What are you talking about then?
RORY: Nothing.
JESS: Her name’s Shane.
RORY: As in ‘come back’?
JESS: Yup.
RORY: Well, great. That’s great. Really, it’s great.
JESS: So I’ve heard.
RORY: Well, it is.
JESS: Are you upset about something?
RORY: No.
JESS: I mean, me and Shane –
RORY: What about you and Shane?
JESS: I don’t know, it didn’t exactly bring a smile to your face.
RORY: Well, I’m still freaked out about the, uh, snowcone machine.
JESS: Okay.
RORY: I could care less about you and Shane.
JESS: Good.
RORY: It just surprised me, that’s all.
JESS: Why?
RORY: Because.
JESS: Because why?
RORY: Because of what happened at Sookie’s wedding.
JESS: Ah.
RORY: Yeah, so me coming back here and just seeing you with Shane just kind of threw me for a sec.
JESS: I’m sorry, did I hear from you at all this summer? Did I just happen to miss the thousands of phone calls you made to me, or did the postman happen to lose all those letters you wrote to me? You kiss me, you tell me not to say anything…very flattering, by the way. You go off to Washington… then nothing. Then you come back here all put out because I didn’t just sit around and wait for you like Dean would’ve done? And yeah, what about Dean? Are you still with him? ‘Cause last time I checked, you were, and I haven’t heard anything to the contrary. Plus, the two of you walking around the other day like some damn Andy Hardy movie. Seemed to me like you’re still pretty together. I half expected you to break into a barn and put on a show.
RORY: When did you see me with Dean?
JESS: At that stupid summer insanity plea the town put on.
RORY: Oh, I’m surprised you could see anything with Shane’s head plastered to your face.
JESS: You didn’t answer me.
RORY: About what?
JESS: Did you call me at all?
RORY: No.
JESS: Did you send me a letter?
RORY: No.
JESS: Postcard?
RORY: No.
JESS: Smoke signal?
RORY: Stop.
JESS: A nice fruit basket?
RORY: Enough!
JESS: Are you still with Dean? Come on, Rory, yes or no – are you still with Dean?
RORY: Yes, I’m still with Dean, yes!
JESS: Glad to hear it.
RORY: Glad to tell you.
JESS: See you around.
RORY: Whatever.
JESS: Right back at ya.

Uhm, Rory and Jess have a lot of bickering scenes and a lot more lighthearted ones but I choose this anyway. Because this is the first time that they try to speak about their feelings, even if they’re both angry and upset about the situation. Rory is confused, she kissed him and after that she didn’t know what to do, she tried to write to him but she never did. Jess was expecting something from her return, but when she comes back she’s still with Dean and Jess doesn’t know what to think. This is probably the first time he talks so much to her, he tells her everything, it’s not his way to act, but he’s so upset that he wants her to know how bad he felt during all summer and how bad he still feels seeing her with Dean. I like that he forces her to face what she did to him. On the other hand, Rory is angry because she thought he felt something for her but now he goes around the town making out with Shane and it seems that he doesn’t care about her, but Jess words catch her out of guard and she doesn’t know how to react. In this moment it’s so clear how much they want each other but they’re still not ready to admit it, to face the consequences of everything.

Jess: Then we can hold hands and skip afterwards.

Day 5. Favorite scene overall.

The first kiss at Sookie’s wedding, episode 2x22

RORY: What are you doing here?
JESS: Hello to you, too.
RORY: Is everything okay?
JESS: You look nice.
RORY: Thank you. What are you doing here?
JESS: I moved back.
RORY: What?
JESS: I moved back.
RORY: But – what – why?
JESS: Just wanted to.
[Rory kisses him]
RORY: Oh my God! Oh my God!
JESS: Rory.
RORY: Don’t say a word!
JESS: Okay.
RORY: I have to go. [runs away] Oh, welcome home!

How could this not be my favorite scene overall??? I mean, it’s the most beautiful scene in the history of TV, imo. For me, it is. I love every single frame of this scene. From the beginning, when she just turns around and Jess is right there behind her. I love Rory’s shocked face and we can clearly see her heart that skips a beat. She can’t believe to see him there, she’s so confused but clearly happy to see him in town again. And Jess, being Jess, acts total casual, he compliments her and when she asks why he’s back he obviously doesn’t say “I come back for you.”, he just answers “Just wanted to.” But she knows better, she knows that he comes back for her, is written all over their faces, they know the truth, he knows now that Rory feels something for him, after she’s been in NY, and Rory knows Jess feels the same way. So she does something totally unexpected. She can no longer deny how she feels about him, how much means for her to see him again, that he comes back in a town he hates just because of her. And she kisses him. Without thinking anymore, for once she just decide to feel. He’s totally shocked by her, but suddenly he kisses her back, and he tries to pull her closer (I love how he takes her face in his hands), BUT she realizes what she’s doing and she runs away, too scared of everything. Scared about her feeling, scared because she just cheated on Dean, scared because she doesn’t really know what all of this means. She asks him to not say anything and he keeps his promise for all summer. And the end, when she screams to him “Oh, welcome home!” LMAO, so funny and so Rory, maybe she wanted tell him that from the beginning but she just got distracted LOL

Christopher and Lorelai, oh where do I begin with these two!? I’ve wanted them together, happy, bantering and all. Christopher, oh Christopher Hayden I adore you.  Most people don’t but I do, always have — your imperfections (more perfect than imperfect) but his laps in judgement sometimes is what the problem was sometimes. They have 10x more chemistry than the couple that was 7 years in the making, the little bit that they were together, they were a family, the perfect little family that I always wanted.  Sometimes I wonder how they didn’t end up together because the chemistry was always there.  Hello, she called Chris at her bachelorette party, she chose to marry him, he always loved her. But no, GG ruined that couple for me too.
